Decoherence and Vacuum Fluctuations
The interference pattern of coherent electrons is effected by coupling to the quantized electromagnetic field. The amplitudes of the interference maxima are changed by a factor which depends upon a double line integral of the photon two-point function around the closed path of the electrons. The interference pattern is sensitive to shifts in the vacuum fluctuations in regions from which the ele...
متن کاملPredictions of Violations of Bell’s Inequality in an S-port Homodyne Detector
Since Bell’s work [ I] was published a number of experiments [2-l 11 have been undertaken to test Bell’s inequality. Some of these experiments made use of correlated spin systems [ IO,1 1 ] such as the ones described by Bohm [ 121 and Bell [ 11. However, the system used in the majority of these experiments [ 2-91 consisted of a pair of photons correlated via their polarizations. The correlated ...

We will provide a review of some of the physics which can be addressed by studying fluctuations and correlations in heavy ion collisions. We will discuss Lattice QCD results on fluctuations and correlations and will put them into context with observables which have been measured in heavy-ion collisions. Special attention will be given to the QCD critical point and the first order co-existence r...
متن کاملCasimir Effect and Vacuum Fluctuations
Vacuum fluctuations have observable consequences, like the Casimir force between two plates in vacuum. There now exists good agreement between theory and experimental measurements of this force. The role of the Casimir effect in diverse fields such as Quantum Field Theory, Condensed Matter Physics and Atomic Physics etc is discussed. A brief description of current applications to nanotechnology...
متن کاملDecoherence from Vacuum Fluctuations
Vacuum fluctuations are a source of irreversibility and decoherence. We investigate the persistent current and its fluctuations in a ring with an in-line quantum dot with an Aharonov-Bohm flux through the hole of the ring. The Coulomb blockade leads to persistent current peaks at values of the gate voltage at which two charge states of the dot have the same free energy. We couple the structure ...
